[2.20.1] Bug report: event spanning over new year stops displaying after a month

Hello,

Sept. 16, 2025 - March 7, 2026
The event in question: Sahara of Mysteries: A Centennial Reflection on the Franco-American Expedition of 1925 • Campus Events Calendar • • Beloit College

From what I could tell, they believed the event was working as expected until they edited and saved it. After that, it “disappeared” from their group event list and the calendar. I found it in the past events list (despite Nov 18 being in range).

After messing around with the dates, my best guess is that the event stops appearing ~31 days after its start date.

The fact this event spans over a new year might be an issue:

Thus, the behavior appears to be:

  • If end date is valid, use it.
  • If end date is somehow invalid, assume 31 days.
  • Events spanning over a new year cause an invalid state somehow.

I feel this may have come before, but I didn’t find anything in the forum nor anything obvious in the release notes.

Thanks,
Nick

Additional notes:

  • I attempted to recreate the event as a new event: same behavior.
  • I attempted to change the end date of the existing to be 12/31/2025, but got the same behavior… My working theory may be off…

Hi Nick,

Thanks for reporting—In the latest release, there were some updates that had to do with end dates, so I wonder if those changes may make a difference here.

I think the next steps would be to see if the same issue persists on your dev site, running the most recent version of LiveWhale. Let us know if things aren’t working as expected there still and we can take a closer look at things. Thanks Nick!

Hello Rachael,

Some more interesting oddities.

  • I made two events: full details (9/15 - 4/15) and simple (8/1 - 6/1).
  • The bug persists on dev server, 2.22.0.
  • The events are being cut off between Oct 18Oct 19, a day later.
  • The cutoff appears independent of the start or end date of the two events. (Lining up 31 days with prod event may be a coincidence?)

(We’re also seeing the calendar styling bug of 2.22.0.)

No clue what’s happening now…

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks for letting us know about the dev testing portion. We’ll go ahead and try to reproduce with the information you’ve shared here and let you know what we find out.

In the meantime, it looks like there was an error that prevented that pushed fix from landing on the Beloit dev server, but we’ve got that addressed and can see that the styling fix is in place now.

More soon,

Hi Nick,

Just wanted to provide you a little update here—we were able to recreate this behavior with those events, and it appears it’s related to the recurring events that span over a new year when edits are made.

This should be fixed in our next minor/patch release of LiveWhale, so you can be on the lookout for that. Thanks again,
Rachael
