Validating Google Tag Manager

Hey folks,

We’re having a hard time validating our Google Tag Manager. It’s currently saying “Your Google tag wasn’t detected on your website” when we try. Has anyone else run into this? What’s the solution you’ve found, if so? We’re currently thinking that we may need LiveWhale to update their implementation of GTM code in templates.

Hi Rob,

Just to confirm it sounds like the issue you’re having here is with the validation with Google—and not that the code isn’t being added to events.nyu.edu correct?

From checking with the inspector tool on your site we do see that GTM code is getting added:

So I just wanted to be sure and clarify there.

I’ll follow up with the team in the meantime in case they have any other ideas and we’ll keep eyes on this post here for other folks to chime in on if they’ve run into a similar issue.

Thanks Rob!

Hey Rachel, you’re right!
Livewhale has added our GTM tracking code; however, Google seems to be balking at the fact that it isn’t implemented exactly as they’ve specified.

We are still collecting data, but the alert banners have been persistent for a few weeks and say that we could stop collecting data at any time.

We are wondering if anyone else is seeing this same error with Google? And if so, what if the GTM container was added as Google specifies? Does that resolve the issue?

Thanks!
