Shared events question

This may be a dumb question, but we are a relatively new LW calendar client that is getting ready to onboard multiple units across campus. So I have a question about shared events:

If all of the campus group calendars are set to automatically display on the main calendar, and one group creates an event and shares it with another group, then each of those groups has a linked version of that same event. Since both group calendars auto-populate on the main calendar, will that shared event then appear twice? Or does the main calendar “know” the event is shared and only display it once?

The main calendar should only show the original copy of any event that has been shared.

Hello Jen,

Going by the CMS Calendar, it should only appear once on the main calendar. (Assuming it is a “linked” copy and not a hard copy.)

What the sharing helps with is when showing a calendar per group. Group A shares an event with Group B, and Group B has a calendar of only their events on their web pages. That linked copy will appear in that Group B calendar, despite being owned by Group A.

Thanks,
Nick

I was going to say the same thing, but I did a quick test on our dev site, and even a full copy (rather than a linked copy) did not show as a duplicate on the main calendar.

Thanks all. I assumed that was the case but wanted to be sure before we began unit rollout.

Oh, interesting. I’d assume it would show up twice, given I’ve seen it happen for us. Though, in hindsight, that may have been mostly two offices trying to add the same event independently. Maybe something has changed in the current versions.

All I know for certain is that I was prompted to hide the option to make hard copies of events and stories so people default to linked copies. >_>

Agreed. I fully expected it to behave the way you described, so I was surprised when I tested it. I’m curious if LW support can confirm one way or another. The documentation doesn’t appear to address this specifically.
