It would be helpful to have a notes field in the redirect manager so we can remember what the redirect is for, or, more importantly, when it can expire and be removed.
Also, on the topic of the redirects manager, it would be nice to have some kind of history of when redirects were used. I know that it shows the “last used” date, but that is often me testing a redirect.
To add to the wishlist:
-
A “purpose” field, if not part of “notes”. Or, some way to define what each redirect is for, like “page moved”, “page deleted”, “vanity” (shortened), “tracking” (short with UTM), etc. Say, if I wanted to do a review, I want to ignore the the permanent “moved/deleted” that will not change.
-
Notes field. +1 to Gian’s suggestion. Bonus if what people commonly want to track could be systemized. For instance, setting a datetime to expire a redirect without needing to remember and check manually.
-
History of previous use. +1 to Jon’s suggestion.
-
Test links from redirect page don’t register in history. An additional idea.
-
A real out-there, dreamer idea: a “profiles-like” interface. To allow for Hidden/Live/Scheduled/Archived. To allow for tags (for purpose). Potentially allow multiple pages be defined in a single instance to redirect to a target. Etc.
OK - upvotes to suggestions by both @jwilcox and @mischlern!
Much better, thought-through versions of what I initially wished for.
Thanks guys…

Hi folks,
Thanks for the lively discussion on this one!
A simple version of this idea—adding an optional “Notes” field—was just released with LiveWhale 2.21.0: Docs: Redirects
Truthfully, as we juggle big flagship 3.0 feature development, we weren’t able to tackle a more intensive UI or functionality overhaul at this time for the Redirects tool, but I hope this new optional Notes field proves useful for the cases discussed here. Thanks!
Karl
Thanks for the quick response! This alone will still be a big help…
