Hide_repeats widget setting hiding all instances of event

Some of our groups have long running repeating events. To prevent these types of events from completely taking over calendars, we use the hide_repeats option in some of our widgets. This doesn’t seem to be working as expected though. According to the hide_repeats documentation, “Setting hide_repeats=true instead only shows one event in each case: the next daily instance of a multi-day event, and the next instance of a repeating series.”

When using this setting, no repeating events show up at all though.
Example link with the setting set to false: https://events.ucalgary.ca/live/widget/151/hide_repeats/false
Example link with the setting set to true: https://events.ucalgary.ca/live/widget/151/hide_repeats/true

The widget in the above examples is filtered to a specific group with a specific tag. With hide_repeats set to false there are many instances of repeating events shown. With hide_repeats set to true there are no instances of these events shown.

Is this a bug with the hide_repeats option or are we using it improperly?

A brief note in passing that I believe I’m also seeing this for Beloit College’s calendar.

A less brief note to give an example on our website calendar (2.24.0):

Hi folks,

Thanks for raising this – I believe this is a known issue that is fixed in LW3+. It occurs when hide_repeats=true and there’s a past instance of your repeating event series, which erroneously flags to not show future ones.

In the meantime before your next upgrade, we could try patching the fix directly, I believe it’s pretty self-contained. We’re not able to SFTP into LiveWhale sites from a Forum threads, but feel free to reach out via the Request Help Form and we’ll see what we can do. Thanks!
